The photography career of Hjálmar R. Bárðarson (1918-2009) covered nearly eighty years from adolescence to his death.
Hjálmar went through several segments of life as a photographer. He lived through three eras of photographic technique, black and white photographs, colour photographs and digital photos.
His collection consists of approximately 70 thousand black and white photographs from the period 1932 until 1988. The exhibition: Hjálmar R. Bárðarson in black and white and the catalogue of the same title presents samples of these photographs. Inga Lára Baldvinsdóttir writes an article on Hjálmar’s photography.
