A beautiful small chess set. An exact replica of the Lewis chessmen in a beautifully carved box, which can be used as a chessboard and also as a beautiful table decoration. Comes in two colors, gray-brown and bone white.
The original chess pieces are in the British Museum. They were found on the island of Lewis (Ljóðhúsum) which is part of the Southern Islands, northwest of Scotland. It has been said that the chessmen were carved in Iceland by Margrét the Adroit in the workshop of Bishop Páll Jónsson in Skálholt in the years 1180–200. Walrus teeth were used for the work.
