At the beginning of the 1970s, only a few turf houses were lived in, in Iceland. Turfhouses had finished their role after being the main form of Icelandic house designs, for more than a thousand years and were now losing their numbers at an alarming rate.<\/p>\n
An Icelandic architecture student pushed for the Danish architecture schools in \u00c5rhus and Copenhagen to take on the task of documenting the unique architectural style of Icelanders, in the 1970s both turf houses and other old buildings were documented. This work brought significant attention to important cultural heritage.<\/p>\n
The book, which is richly illustrated, gives us an insight into the surveying trips, the unique registration and the efforts to preserve the diverse, original Icelandic architectural heritage.<\/p>\n
